Personality:

Mikoto is honestly a derp in a lot of ways. She is cute, childish, and comes off pretty much care free. Sometimes you can catch her crouched down like a cat (and running like one), but with a dog’s nose, sniffing for food. And her appetite is huge, running like a person with a high metabolism. (Keep her away from spicy food, she can’t handle it at all. And when she doesn’t eat and she’s hungry, she is liable to pass out.). But with every coin, there is another side. When she is mad, she becomes totally serious, like a solider focused on one sole mission. And when she’s in that kind of state, it is very hard to dissuade her from attacking.

While she respects Mai, she hates when the other girl (or anyone else) treats her like a child. She swears she is an adult and can handle herself when she knows deep down that she cannot. There are a lot of things in the world she does not quite understand and Mai is there to help her through it. Also Mikoto comes off a little lost when she is not around Mai or she cannot be without her. Her attachment to the other girl is quite strong.

Mikoto’s mind is pretty simplistic. When she is asked about why she is around Mai, she says it is because she likes Mai’s cooking and she is fun to be around. When she feels someone is special to her, she likes them. “Like” meaning she enjoys being around them. And when it comes to the festival, she writes everyone she knows name on a ribbon to express that she likes them. (The true meaning is that if you write the name of the person you like on a ribbon and tie it to the Crystal Hall’s hand railing, you are destined to be a couple). Then she says, “It’s good to like people, right?” But even now, she does not understand that there are different levels of ‘liking’ someone.

Through the series, Mikoto is focused on finding her brother considering that he is the reason why she traveled to Fuka Academy. And it is not until near the end of the series that she finds him (even though it was the same person she was suspicious of being her brother) and fights to protect him. Whenever she becomes confused, her younger days that were spent with her brother come to mind. He taught her that enemies are meant to be defeated. This extends to protecting those most important to you. That is why she was always willing to fight for Mai, but now, she only fights for her brother.
